All Inspections

During a routine inspection

We visited the provider's office and reviewed the care plans of three people who used the service. We also reviewed other documents relevant to the service. We conducted telephone interviews with people who used the service and also spoke with some relatives. We spoke with three care workers, two care coordinators and the registered manager.

People who used the service were involved and consulted on decisions relating to their care and support. One person who used the service told us, 'They (staff) give me choices and always ask if I want my hair washed when I have a shower. They will ask me what I want to eat.'

The care and support provided met people's needs and people felt safe when their care worker attended their home. One person we spoke with told us, 'I feel safe with the carers, they always treat me dignity and respect.'

Care workers we spoke with could explain the procedure for handling and administering medication safely. However the provider's training records showing who had completed medication administration training required updating.

The provider welcomed and respected people's views and acted on them.

During a routine inspection

Prior to the inspection we reviewed all the information that we had about the service. We spoke to the registered manager, two home support workers and four people who used the service. We looked at records.

We saw that people who used the service were provided with a comprehensive information pack that contained, amongst other things, details about the service, policies and procedures and how to raise concerns or make a complaint.

People who used the service told us they were very satisfied with the quality of the care provided and they had been involved in the compilation of their care plans. They also told us that the care support would always promote their privacy and dignity when providing personal care in their home environment. One person told us," I'm very, very happy. I was a bit down when I came out of hospital but they (home support workers) have really cheered me up."

We saw that staff had completed training to help them recognise and deal with any issues that may give concern in respect of vulnerable adults.

Staff told us they felt they were well trained and supported to deliver good quality, safe care to people.

We saw that the provider gave everybody who used the service the opportunity to comment upon the care and support they had received. They then analysed those responses to learn from and resolve any issues that may have been identified.

During a routine inspection

The people we spoke with said they were happy with the care and support they received and felt it was delivered in a safe way. They told us that staff offered them choice and respected their opinions while encouraging them to be as independent as possible. One person said, 'I get great support, they help me to get dressed, put cream on my legs and will always contact the nurses for me if I need them.' They told us how care workers were helping them to become more independent and confident so they could care for themselves again.

We were told that staff were competent, friendly, helpful and caring. One person said, 'The ladies are so pleasant all the time, they never grumble and turn out in all weathers.' Another person told us, 'They are all fabulous, although some are more fabulous than others.' When asked what she meant by this she said that her regular care workers knew her well, but others did not, but they were all good.

The people we spoke with told us they did not have any complaints about the way they were supported. They said they would feel confident raising any concerns they might have with the care workers or they would call the office.

When we asked people if there was anything they would like to improve five of the six people we spoke with could not think of anything they wanted to change. The other person said they would just like to have the same staff all the time as new care workers did not know them as well.
