During a routine inspection

People living at 8 The Village were unable to tell us their views about the outcome areas we looked at because they had complex needs and verbal communication difficulties, which meant they were not able to tell us their experiences. On the day we visited, all but two of the supported people were out at various activities and day centres. One person who was there communicated with Makaton sign language and both people were uncomfortable interacting with people they had not met before. Instead we spent some time observing people whilst they were at home.

We telephoned and spoke with relatives about the care people receive at 8 The Village. One relative described the home as 'absolutely brilliant' one relative said 'The residents at the home all seem to be happy.' Another said 'It is a lovely home. They (staff) involve people in the community.'

We spoke with the area manager during our visit to the home, who had visited to carry out an audit on behalf of the organisation.

We spoke with the Local Authority Contracts Officer who informed us that they did not have any concerns about this service. They told us that 'this is one of our good providers.'

We were unable to speak with the people who use this service as they had dual sensory impairment and multiple complex needs. On the day we visited, all but one of the supported people were out at a carol service for most of the day. The one person who was there communicated with Mackatron and did not like to interact with strangers.
