During a routine inspection

Most people at 14 Derwent Road were unable to tell us their views about the outcome areas we looked at because they had complex needs which meant they were not able to tell us their experiences. Instead we spent time observing a mealtime, whilst some people were still at home and before everyone went out to their various activities. We also had opportunity to observe how care was being provided.

We telephoned and spoke with relatives and other people who visit the home such as advocates and reviewing officers from the Local Authority about the care people receive at 14 Derwent Road.

One relative said 'Staff are 100% they really are great. The home is always clean, warm and comfortable. My relative is very well cared for. Overall I am quite satisfied with everything.' Other visitors to the home said "I think it is a wonderful home. There is a nice sense of warmth when I visit. The staff I feel are well trained always open, kind and supportive with people who live at the home. In my judgement this is a good service." Another said "People's health needs are dealt with and staff at the home are very caring. This is one of the better services."

We spoke with the Local Authority Contracts Officer who informed us that they did not have any concerns about this service.

During a routine inspection

We were only able to talk with one person who used the service because most of the people who used this service had dual sensory impairment and multiple complex needs. The person we spoke with told us that he was comfortable living there and that staff were good with him. On the day we visited, most of the people who lived there were out doing activities with their support workers.
