23 January 2014

During a routine inspection

We visited Choice Support's Stockport office on 23 January 2014. We looked at care records for people who used the service and found that they were well maintained, personalised and contained relevant information about people's individual choices and preferences.

We spoke with the relative of one person using the services of Choice Support Stockport and their comments included, 'I am very pleased with the way in which they (staff) have dealt with supporting [relative] to settle in to his home. The house is run like a proper home not an institution, people have choice and they are not just sat in chairs all day long, they are taken out places'.

We found that Choice Support Stockport provided people using the service with appropriate information and support in relation to their agreed plan of care.

Information was available to demonstrate that all staff had received appropriate safeguarding training and all staff we spoke with understood the different types of abuse and what action they would take if they had any concerns.

Staff were provided with appropriate training opportunities and received regular supervision both at the office base and whilst on site supporting people using the service.

We saw that there were effective systems in place to monitor and provide opportunities to improve service delivery. There was a complaints procedure in place and any concerns were followed up appropriately.

4 October 2012

During a routine inspection

During our inspection we visited the Stockport Branch of Choice Support and two of the properties where the tenants were supported by members of staff from the service.

As the people who lived in the two properties we visited had limited communication skills we contacted two family members by telephone. We also contacted a further two family members who had relatives in other tenancy's.

People told us that overall they were pleased with the care their family member received. Comments we received were; 'I feel that my relative is fortunate to be where they are, care better now than ever' 'Good continuity of staff team' 'Communication better now that Choice Support provide the care'.

We were told that family members of new people who were to use the service were part of the initial assessment which looked at a persons social and personal care needs. We were also told by family members of people who had used the service for many years that they were involved in the annual review of the care plan.

All the family members said that if they were not happy with anything they knew who to contact and felt able to approach the manager and/or a member of the staff team.
