Governance, management and sustainability

Score: 3

Improvements were needed to strengthen governance procedures. The provider had not identified the care record concerns we found in relation to turning charts, wound photos and mattress setting records through their own internal monitoring systems. At the time of our on-site assessment the regional manager was present and was in the process of working with the registered manager to strengthen the services governance processes. The provider sent us various improvement plans. This included action to improve how feedback from people was documented, analysed, and used to improve the service. The provider had clear systems in place regarding accountability and they were aware of their roles and responsibilities. Team meetings, clinical meeting and care plan reviews took place on a regular basis.

Staff enjoyed working at the service. Staff were positive about leadership in the service and told us they received support when it was needed. Staff were clear about their roles and responsibilities and were able to tell us about how risks were managed via the providers governance systems and improvement plans. The registered manager was keen to improve the environment for people living with dementia. They had plans in place for the home to be redecorated to make it more dementia friendly improving signage, lighting and colour contrasting. More practical training on dementia was also planned.
