During a routine inspection

We spoke with 18 people who were using the services at the time of inspection. All the people we spoke with told us the support staff treated them well and gave them appropriate care. Comments included 'They [the staff] feel like family' and 'They [the staff] are always on time and do their best'.

There were positive comments about the staff. The people we spoke with told us 'I am happy with the care, the staff are good, helpful and friendly'. People were cared for by staff that had been through the appropriate recruitment checks. Staff received appropriate training and supervision to carry out the caring roles.

There were appropriate quality monitoring and auditing processes to help the service provide consistent care of a good quality. We rang one person's home to ask for comments and spoke with a staff member who was conducting a survey about the quality of care being delivered.

There was an effective complaints system available, in case anyone wished to raise a complaint. The people we spoke with told us they had no concerns about the care they received and would speak to the staff if they had any concerns.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with people who use the service and their relatives. They told us that the staff support was generally provided by people who knew their support needs. Changes made were in the main due to leave or sickness.

People confirmed that a care file was in place at each of their homes and that staff completed visit records. Several people confirmed that recent visits had taken place where information had been reviewed and updated.

Everyone spoken with knew who to speak with at the office should they need to and felt that confident any issues would be addressed. People said, 'they are very approachable' and 'I've no issues, would ring them if I needed to'.

Other comments included; 'it's nice to know they are there', 'very impressed, they are flexible and willing to do what we need', 'the care is respectful and in a dignified manner', 'they are marvellous' and 'I'm very pleased with the service'.

Staff also told us they were happy working for the service. They felt they received sufficient training, were aware of relevant policies and procedures and felt supported by senior members of the team. Staff commented, 'the management are easy to talk with', 'I've no problems in raising any questions or queries', 'there's always someone at the end of the phone', it's a good agency to work for' and 'I don't think there's anything they could improve on'.

The local authority commissioning team confirmed that they were happy with the support provided by Comfort Call Rochdale.
