Barn Close Surgery is located in Broadway, a village in Worcestershire. The practice has a rural catchment area and services are provided under a general medical service (GMS) contract with NHS England. The practice is able to offer dispensing services to those patients who live more than one mile (1.6km) from the surgery.
The current practice building is a historic timber framed house in the village centre which has housed the practice since 1983. The practice has limited car parking and so patients also park in the village. The partners recognise the significant limitations of the building due to limited ground floor provision for patients. They are actively working to obtain new premises.
There are 7,546 registered patients who live mainly in Broadway and the surrounding rural areas. The practice provides primary medical care to people living in one care home. The area has a high elderly population and most patients speak English as their first language. The practice population is the eighth least deprived decile in England. Level one represents the highest levels of deprivation and level 10 the lowest.
Barn Close Surgery offers a range of services including family planning, surgical procedures, maternity and midwifery services, treatment of disease, disorder or injury, diagnostic and screening procedures as their regulated activities. It is also a training practice and regularly hosts medical students.
There are three GP partners, three salaried GPs, (GPs are male and female) three practice nurses, one healthcare assistant, one phlebotomist, seven dispensary staff, including the dispensary manager, a practice manager, a IT manager, a team of administrative and reception staff and two housekeepers.
The practice does not provide an out of hours service to their own patients. When the practice is closed patients are directed to contact Care UK via 111.
