People were protected from the risk of harm and abuse. People’s risks were managed well. There had been a recent safeguarding incident to which the registered manager responded appropriately to. There were processes in place to learn from things when incidents had occurred. Following a recent safeguarding incident, the registered manager had reviewed practices to determine whether any changes could be made and whether processes in place were sufficient.

Staff had received safeguarding and mental capacity training and understood about the importance of consent and choice. The deputy manager spoke with us about the training staff had received. The recent safeguarding incident was discussed and reviewed to ensure the practices in place were appropriate to keep people safe.

During the on-site inspection, we observed staff offering help and support to people where needed. Staff treated people with patience and kindness. The equipment in place to support people was safe and maintained to ensure on-going safety and quality.

Systems and processes were in place to protect people from abuse and harm, and this was reflected by the current staff practices. People had risk assessments in place which were updated as people’s needs changed. When accidents or incidences occurred, learning was taken and shared with staff to mitigate the risk of further recurrences.

The deputy manager told us how people’s risks were assessed and managed and records we viewed reflected what the deputy manager had told us.

People were being supported by staff who knew people’s needs well. Equipment such as hoists and wheelchairs were seen to be being used safely with transfers being executed in a safe way in line with staff training.

Risk assessments were completed and reviewed to ensure people’s individual risks were managed well, and environmental risks were assessed to ensure the premises were safe and did not pose a risk to people living at Watford House.
