Our view of the service

Manor House Residential Home is a 'care home' that can provide accommodation and personal care to up to 23 people. At the time of our inspection there were 20 older people living at the care home, most of whom were living with dementia. The service was rated requires improvement overall at their last inspection (published 17 October 2022). This inspection was prompted because breaches of legal requirements were found at the providers last inspection. We carried out this unannounced on-site inspection of this service on 22 April 2024. The team who conducted the inspection consisted of an inspector, an assessor and a regulatory coordinator. We looked at all 5 key questions and 33 quality statements during this assessment. Based on our findings we have changed the services rating from requires improvement to good. This was because we found the service had followed the action plan they had sent us after their last inspection and made improvements in all the areas where we had identified issues. For example, staff now assessed and mitigated identified risks people might face; Staff were now suitably trained and supported to meet people’s needs and keep them safe; The care homes interior had been totally refurbished making it a much more comfortable and pleasant place for people to live; People living in the care home were now treated with dignity and respect by staff; Social activities provision was now more person-centred; and the providers governance systems were now operated more effectively.

People's experience of this service

We spoke in-person with 3 people about their experiences of living at this care home and a visiting relative. People expressed being happy with the care and support they or their loved ones received from this provider. One person told us, “I am incredibly happy living here. It’s the staff who are all excellent that make it such a pleasant place to live.” A relative added, “I am happy with the standard of care my [family member] receives at Manor House. The managers and staff here are all particularly good.” Feedback we received from 3 relatives and 3 external health and social care professionals we contacted by telephone or email was equally positive. One remarked, “Overall, Manor House work well with the GP surgery in order to provide excellent care to their residents.” Another added, “Manor House is among the most compassionate care homes I work with. They take a great deal of care and time to try and meet the needs of people they support.” We also observed the care and support staff provided people who could not talk to us to help us understand their experiences of living at the care home. People had their human rights and diversity respected and were treated with compassion by staff. People looked at ease and comfortable in the presence of staff. Staff interaction with people was characterised by warmth and kindness. People were supported to avoid social isolation, and take part in a variety of recreational activities at the care home and in the wider community that reflected their social interests and culture.
