People's experience of this service
Whilst people and their relatives told staff supported them to keep safe, our assessment found people were not always protected from the risk of harm. People were at increased risk of falls during the night as the provider had not increased staffing levels, despite this being identified by the registered manager as a change required to improve the safety and care for people. People were at increased risk of harm in the event of a fire as the provider had failed to remedy known risks to people. People were not protected as much as possible from the risk of infection because the premises and equipment were not always clean and hygienic. We also found items and objects within the home that were accessible to people which could cause potential harm. People did not always have access to their prescribed medicines during the night. People’s nutrition and hydration needs were not always met as staff were not always available to support people where needed. People were not always supported by staff in a timely manner when they were in discomfort or distress. People had limited access to activities and the local community to promote and support their independence, health and well being. However, people were supported to maintain relationships with their family who were able to visit the service. People and their relatives told us staff were kind and respected their privacy and dignity.
