Assessments were completed before people moved into the service. These were updated regularly so staff were aware of people’s current needs. Where appropriate relatives were involved in care plan reviews. People were asked for their consent before any personal care was provided. Staff were aware of people’s preferences and were person-centred in their approach.

A relative told us; “[Staff] certainly understand their needs, preferences and foibles.” “I was present at a long interview at the [Name of hospital] between [relative] and the Caritate staff just prior to the move to the care home. [My relative’s] needs were discussed in depth.” Another said; “My brother and I chose the Home for [relative] and I remember them asking lots of questions about their likes and dislikes. They seemed to be interested in them as a person.” Staff told us they had a good understanding of people’s needs and knew them well. Care plans showed assessments of needs were regularly updated to help ensure they accurately reflected people’s current needs.
