During our inspection of Dr Nevison's Clinic on 19 March 2013, people told us they were always consulted and fully involved in decisions taken about their treatment. One person told us, 'My consent is always sought about the way forward. I always feel like an active participant.'Records we looked at showed that people's relevant circumstances were thoroughly assessed and regularly reviewed from the outset. Treatment plans we saw were very detailed and reflected individual needs and preferences. One person said, 'The care is superb, you cannot fault it.'
People we spoke with told us they felt safe at the clinic and trusted the staff who work there. However, we found that suitable arrangements had not been put in place to identify, respond to or deal effectively with allegations or incidences of abuse should they arise.
Records showed that effective recruitment procedures were in place to ensure that staff were able to meet the needs of people who used the service. This included carrying out appropriate checks before staff began work.
The provider had an effective complaints procedure in place. Records we looked at showed that complaints, although rarely made, were taken seriously and fully investigated. People we spoke with knew how to complain and to whom, but told us they had no reason to do so.
