A domiciliary care service in Mansfield has been rated outstanding following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in May.

CQC inspected Your Home Care in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, and found a service where people benefitted from outstanding care.

Your Home Care is a domiciliary care service providing care for people within their own homes. At the time of inspection there were 39 people using the service.

Following the inspection, the service was rated outstanding overall and for being caring, responsive and well-led. It was rated good for being safe and effective. This was CQC’s first inspection of the service.

Natalie Reed, CQC head of adult social care inspection, said:

“When we inspected Your Home Care, we were extremely impressed by the level of support people received and found a service that provided outstanding care to people in their own homes.

“There was a strong and visible person-centred culture and staff cared for people in a way that exceeded expectations. People, relatives and health and social care professionals praised the approach of staff and commented on the positive impact they had made on people’s lives.

“The service offered sensitive and thoughtful care and staff were extremely kind and caring. Staff anticipated people’s needs and recognised distress and discomfort at the earliest stage.

“For example, new staff never provided care for people they had not met. All new staff were introduced to people with an experienced member of staff, ensuring the person was comfortable and assured before care commenced to reduce any anxiety.

“Staff explored different ways to improve people’s independence and help them reach their goals. For example, individualised care packages were in place to support three young adults in obtaining qualifications and seeking and maintaining paid employment.  One of these people praised the approach of staff in also helping them to become less dependent on their family.

“Relatives praised the approach of staff for the care provided to their family members who were living with dementia. Staff had helped to regain their confidence and independence which had improved their relationships with their loved ones.

“The whole team deserve to be congratulated for all their hard work and commitment.”

 CQC inspectors found:

  • People received exceptional person-centred care and support and were involved with decisions about their care
  • The provider used innovative methods to ensure that all people received information in a format they could understand to reduce the risk of discrimination
  • People were supported to follow and pursue activities, education opportunities and employment opportunities
  • People rarely complained about the care received; when they did, the provider acted quickly to ensure there was minimal impact on people and this was used for future learning and improvement
  • People’s independence improved significantly from the care provided. This was especially evident for people living with dementia
  • Care plans were thorough and addressed all risks to people’s health and safety, but in as least a restrictive way as possible
  • Staff were supported to develop their careers through extensive training programmes and completing externally recognised qualifications
  • People were supported to maintain a healthy lifestyle through making wise food choices.
