The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has rated Leaf Complex Care Exeter as outstanding overall, following an inspection in October.

Leaf Complex Care Exeter, run by LEAF Complex Care Limited, provides care and support to people with a learning disability and autistic people who live in their own homes, so that they can live as independently as possible.

Following the inspection, the service is rated outstanding overall. It is also rated outstanding for being responsive and well-led. It is rated good for being safe, effective and caring.

Debbie Ivanova, CQC’s director for people with learning disability and autistic people, said:

“When we inspected Leaf Complex Care Exeter, we found an outstanding service which was exceptionally responsive to people’s needs. It’s led by a passionate and committed team, and the staff are well-trained and happy in their roles – all of which supported the service to provide high-quality care to people.

“Staff went above and beyond to make sure people and their families received excellent care. For example, a relative told us staff had offered to go on holiday with a family to support one of the people they cared for so the whole family could enjoy quality time together.

“I was delighted to hear about the inspection of Leaf Complex Care Exeter and the whole team there is thoroughly deserving of the overall outstanding rating. I would encourage other providers to read the inspection report and learn from the personalised quality of care and treatment being delivered.”

Inspectors found the following during this inspection:

  • Staff treated people with compassion, kindness and respect. They understood totally the individual needs of people receiving care and treatment
  • The service worked in partnership with people to understand and manage risks
  • It created a positive culture where people could participate safely in a range of activities, such as community groups, swimming, walks, trampolining and enjoying hobbies
  • Staff worked extremely well together as a multidisciplinary team, and with relevant services outside the organisation to the benefit of people receiving care
  • Staff empowered people to make their own decisions about their care and support with input from families.
