The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has told Ashingdon Hall in Essex to make immediate improvements and kept it in special measures to protect the safety and welfare of people living there. The service has again been rated as inadequate following an inspection that took place in December.
Ashingdon Hall is a residential care home, run by Maviswood Limited. It provides support to older people and people living with dementia. There were six people living on the residential suite and eight people living on the dementia suite at the time of this inspection.
This unannounced inspection was carried out to follow up on concerns CQC found during the last inspection.
Following this inspection, as well as the service again being rated as inadequate overall, so have their ratings for how safe, effective and well-led they are. The service improved from inadequate to requires improvement for being responsive. The service has again been rated as requires improvement for being caring.
CQC has also taken additional enforcement action, which will be reported on when legally able to do so. The service remains in special measures so CQC can ensure people are safe while they are making these improvements.
Inspectors found:
- The provider could not demonstrate whether or not all people using the service had enough fluid intake to maintain their hydration needs
- People were not supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff did not support them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests
- CCTV was used in people's bedrooms on the dementia suite, but there was no evidence showing that a less intrusive option was considered to protect people’s privacy and dignity.
