The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has taken further action against Nest Healthcare in Essex after they failed to make the improvements they were told to at a previous inspection. The service has again been rated as inadequate following an inspection that took place in September.

Nest Healthcare is a residential service, run by Paradise Lodge Care Home Limited. It provides rehabilitation for people with mental health and substance misuse issues. The service has five beds and there were four people using the service at the time of this inspection.

This inspection was carried out to follow up on concerns CQC found during the last inspection.

Following this inspection, as well as the service again being rated as inadequate overall, so have their ratings for how safe and well-led they are. The service has also dropped from requires improvement to inadequate for being effective and responsive. The service has again been rated as good for being caring.

CQC issued a letter of intent to the service after the inspection asking them to provide an action plan for fixing these issues and reducing future risks. The provider also voluntarily stopped admitting new residents for five weeks to the home while they improved their staff training and how they managed the home. CQC has also taken additional enforcement action, which will be reported on when legally able to do so.

The service also remains in special measures so CQC can ensure people are safe while they are making these improvements. If CQC does not see rapid and widespread improvement, it will take further enforcement action. This could include proposing to cancel Nest Healthcare’s registration.
