The Care Quality Commission has published two reports on Solent NHS Trusts services; the specialist community mental health services for children and young people and the substance misuse services.

CQC undertook this focussed inspection to find out whether Solent NHS Trust had made improvements to its substance misuse services and specialist community mental health services for children and young people since the previous comprehensive inspection of the trust in June 2016. At the last inspection of the trust in June 2016, the substance misuse services and specialist community mental health services for children and young people were rated as Requires Improvement overall.

At the most recent inspection in May 2017 we found that the trust had made the necessary improvements required. The Southampton New Road substance misuse service and the Portsmouth Recovery Hub were rated Good for safe, effective, caring, responsive to people’s needs and well-led. Overall the service was rated as Good.

The CAMHS services at St James Hospital and Adelaide Health Centre were rated Requires Improvement for being responsive to people’s needs,  Good for safe, effective and well-led and Outstanding for caring . Overall the service was rated as Good.

The reports are available on the CQC's website.

Karen Bennett-Wilson, CQC Head of Hospital Inspection said:

“In June 2016, we found a number of key areas that required improvement within the CAMHS and substance misuse services delivered by Solent NHS Trust and, I am delighted that the trust has made the required improvements in these areas so those using them receive good quality services.

“I hope the trust will continue the good work to improve its services to ensure that it’s overall rating of ‘Requires Improvement’ will improve in the future".
