The Care Quality Commission has found the quality of care provided by Home Instead Senior Care West Lancashire and Chorley to be Outstanding following an inspection carried out in July 2014.
The West Lancashire and Chorley company, part of national home care provider Home Instead Senior Care UK, is one of the first three adult social care services in England to be judged as Outstanding under CQC’s new approach to inspection and regulation of the sector.
Inspectors found staffs at Home Instead West Lancashire and Chorley were caring and compassionate and people were being provided with responsive, effective and well led care. A full report of the inspection has been published today.
Under CQC’s new programme of inspections, all adult social care services are being given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led. To date CQC have published ratings on over 300 services.
The report on Home Instead Senior Care West Lancashire and Chorley highlights a number of areas of innovative and creative practice used by the company, and a clear commitment by managers to continually improve.
Inspectors found that care was planned in a way that not only took account of people’s health and physical needs, but also their social and emotional needs, such as isolation or loss of independence.
The minimum care visit was for one hour, allowing staff to spend time with people in their care, build up a relationship and fully understand the things that were important to them.
Inspectors praised the support provided to staff through a robust induction and ongoing training, and saw that training programmes were adapted to meet the needs of people using the service as and when these changed.
Debbie Westhead, Deputy Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care in the North said:
“We found that people receiving care from Home Instead Senior Care West Lancashire and Chorley and their relatives were overwhelmingly positive about the quality of their care, and this view was shared by community health and social care professionals who reported excellent links with the company.
“Managers spoke passionately about the importance of holistic, person centred care that focused on the needs of the individual, and we saw that staff were committed to putting these values into practice on a day-to-day basis.
“The agency used some innovative methods to support people in their care and took responsibility for people’s whole well-being. As one example – staff had supported a person to return home following a hospital admission by arranging all the necessary adaptations to the home in preparation for their return.”
“The company was highly proactive in the wider community too. Managers and staff were working to increase dementia awareness in Ormskirk by holding fund-raising events and providing free dementia training for the public.”
Andrea Sutcliffe, Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care, said:
“The quality of care which our inspectors found here was exceptional and I am very pleased that we can celebrate this company’s achievements.
“An outstanding service is the result of a tremendous amount of hard work and commitment. I would like to thank and congratulate everyone involved.”
