NHS England has revealed the findings of its first Friends and Family survey which asked patients whether they would recommend A&E and inpatient wards to their nearest and dearest based on their own experiences.
The survey covered around 4,500 NHS wards and 144 A&E services.
It was conducted during April, May and June this year.
Commenting on the publication of the findings, a CQC spokesperson said:
"We see the Friends and Family results as a key piece of data in identifying good and bad care. This is part of our new approach to surveillance, which puts the views of the public and patients at the heart of our approach.
“It will be important for us to understand what the national data reveals about these NHS trusts and to link it into what we already know, so that we can create a complete picture of what care looks like in these hospitals.”
