James Titcombe, our National Advisor on patient safety, culture and quality, puts questions from the public to our new Chief Inspectors. James said, “Six months ago, I would have given my right arm to interview CQC’s three Chief Inspectors and challenge them on what they’re doing. And now I have.”
James was the driving force behind the campaign that uncovered poor care at Furness General Hospital.
He has now brought his skills and experience to CQC as our National Advisor on patient safety, culture and quality. In this role, he will:
- have a strong focus on complaints and whistleblowing.
- help to ensure that our new inspection approach learns from, listens to and acts upon the information that we receive.
Key to our new approach is the powerful Chief Inspectors that we have recruited as part of our new way of inspecting and regulating health and social care services.
Watch the interview
We asked the CQC Action Team (members of the public who have expressed an interest in getting involved with our work) and a number of key voluntary organisations what they would like to ask the Chief Inspectors.
We received more than 200 questions on complaints, whistleblowing, staffing levels, reporting and what differences they plan to make in their areas.
Andrea Sutcliffe, Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care, said, “Being interviewed by James was a great opportunity for the three Chief Inspectors to be able to respond to some of those key questions that the public is asking about CQC.”
She went on to say, “We hope this shows our commitment to being open and transparent as we start to put our ideas into action. Knowing so many people submitted questions is a great sign that the public are becoming more interested and engaged with CQC, which is vital for all three of us as we move forward with our new approaches.”
