Right at Home Havant in Hampshire has been rated Outstanding by the Care Quality commission following an inspection in September.

Right at Home Havant is a domiciliary care agency. It provides a service to older people and younger adults living with physical disability, dementia and sensory impairment.

Inspectors rated the service Outstanding for being well-led and responsive to people’s needs and Good for being safe, effective and caring. The overall rating was Outstanding.

Deborah Ivanova, Deputy Chief Inspector, Adult Social Care, said: "It is always positive to find a service that is person-centred and inclusive. The service recognised that people should have choice and control over their lives and made this happen. This was clear in how the staff pro-actively promoted people’s independence.

"The management of Right at Home had created a culture that supported staff to develop and use their skills to provide an innovative service. I would like to congratulate them on attaining an overall rating of Outstanding."

Some of the key findings from the inspection include:

  • Staff received excellent support and training and felt proud to work for the service. Staff and management were also seen to be valued by people and their relatives.
  • Staff used innovative ways to involve people in their care and also to help in communication when English was not a first language. For example, a person had been given a document and on another instance, a birthday card in their first language.
  • People played an important part in the local community. The service had developed links with the local organisations and services and had plans to develop this further.
  • Staff took the time to learn about people’s personal histories and worked hard to reduce social isolation. They encouraged and supported people to take part in meaningful and enjoyable activities
  • People were placed at the heart of the service. Care plans were highly personalised and met people’s diverse needs. People were also involved in decisions about their care which was regularly reviewed by their family members.
  • There was an open and positive culture within the service. People and their relatives found staff to be approachable, compassionate and flexible around their needs.
