Lewisham’s The Queens Road Partnership has been rated Inadequate overall by the Care Quality Commission.
It was rated Inadequate for being safe and well-led, it was rated Requires Improvement for being effective and responsive and Good for being caring, following an inspection in February 2019.
Serving nearly 10,000 patients, the practice, did not have clear systems and processes to keep patients safe.
The practice had not undertaken criminal records checks for some staff who were performing chaperone duties.
There were no fire safety checks documented since 2014 and it was unclear when the last fire drill was undertaken.
The practice did not have adequate infection prevention control systems and processes in place.
The overall governance arrangements were ineffective. Lack of oversight and assessment of the service provided poor governance structure which meant that issues were not routinely identified.
The practice did not have clear and effective processes for managing risks, issues and performance. Issues that could threaten the delivery of safe and effective care were not identified and managed.
The provider must now:
- Ensure care and treatment is provided in a safe way to patients.
- Establish effective systems and processes to ensure good governance in accordance with the fundamental standards of care.
The practice should now:
- Continue to monitor and improve patients’ experiences when telephoning the practice.
- Implement actions to improve the uptake of childhood immunisation and for the cervical screening programme.
Head of Inspection for Primary Medical Services in London, Antony Hall, said: “The last time we inspected The Queens Road Partnership, it was rated Good overall, and it is concerning that standards have fallen to such a degree that it is now Inadequate.
“We have placed the practice in special measures, which will give people who use the service the reassurance that the care they get should improve. We will inspect again within six months and expect to see considerable improvements.”
