A Northampton care service has been rated outstanding following its first Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection.

CQC inspected Spinney Hill House, which is run by Albany Care (Northampton) Ltd, earlier this year.

The service, on Spinney Hill Road, provides accommodation and support to younger adults with learning disabilities, mental health needs and autistic people.

The inspection found people using the service received excellent care that was safe and responsive to their needs as well as supportive of their individual aspirations.

Following the inspection, CQC rated the service outstanding overall and for being caring and well-led. It rated it good for being safe, responsive and effective.

Debbie Ivanova, CQC deputy chief inspector for people with a learning disability and autistic people, said:

“Our inspectors were extremely impressed by the quality of support people received at Spinney Hill House, which helped them lead fulfilling lives based on their own choices and interests.

“This was achieved because the service’s culture created an environment where people were equal partners in their care and support. They were empowered to make their own decisions and pursue goals and aspirations, such as tailoring their living space to their liking or working with a personal trainer to boost their health and wellbeing.

“A result of this could be seen in the feedback people using the service gave us. One person told us the service was their home, not a care setting but somewhere they could truly be themself.

“We were also impressed by the service’s commitment to driving wider change for people with disabilities. A person using the service was made a champion for autistic people and was supported to share their expertise with the service’s staff and serve as a representative on local authority forums.

“Behind the service’s success was exceptional leadership, driven by a desire to deliver the best possible outcomes for people in every way it could.

“Staff were energised by the service’s commitment to helping people live their best life, and they went above and beyond people’s expectations to make that a reality.

“The whole team at the service deserve to be congratulated.”

Full details of the inspection are given in the report published on our website.
