The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has rated Boleyn Medical Centre also known as Dr MSJ Khan in East Ham, in the London Borough of Newham, as Good overall and removed it from special measures.

The health centre, which looks after around 10,900 patients, was rated Good for being safe, effective, caring and well-led. It was rated Requires Improvement for being responsive to people’s needs, following an inspection in October.

The practice demonstrated that staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles. Staff had completed training in adult and child safeguarding, basic life support as well as sepsis.

At this inspection it was recognised that significant improvements had been made. There was evidence that complaints were fully investigated, lessons learnt, and action taken to improve the quality of patient care.

It was clear there were processes in place for managing risk. A specific action plan had been created which detailed the risks that had been identified, this plan was monitored and updated to ensure that risks were addressed and escalated where necessary.

Medicines management arrangements had improved. The practice had also put in place a policy for repeat prescribing.

Vicki Wells, CQC’s deputy chief inspector of primary medical services, London, said:

“Staff at Boleyn Medical Centre have worked hard to make improvements following feedback from our last inspection, they were aware of areas that needed improving and have taken steps to do so. I am pleased to say that as a result of this, they have now been rated as Good and are out of special measures.

“The team know what further work they need to do, including improving patient access to the service. We will return to check that these changes have been implemented at a later date.”
