Newcross Healthcare Solutions Limited, Newport in Isle of Wight has been rated Outstanding by the Care Quality commission following an inspection in August and September.

Inspectors rated the service Outstanding for being effective, caring, well-led and responsive to people’s needs and Good for being safe. The overall rating was Outstanding.

Newcross Healthcare Solutions Limited is a domiciliary care agency. It provides care and support services to people living in their own homes in the community.

Deborah Ivanova, Deputy Chief Inspector, Adult Social Care, said;

“I am pleased to see that people were placed at the heart of a service where choice and independence are promoted. People benefited from exceptionally personalised care.

“Staff showed real commitment to people’s well-being and supported people in a caring and compassionate way. Staff were dedicated and worked tirelessly to meet people’s needs, including caring for people in their own time. I would like to congratulate the service on attaining an overall rating of Outstanding.”

Some of the key findings from the inspection include:

  • Management were praised for their leadership and how they motivated and supported staff to provide exceptional care.
  • The provider developed an innovative system to record staff training and to prevent staff being allocated to work if their training was out of date or was about to lapse. This encouraged staff to take responsibility for their training and made sure that people were only supported by staff with the appropriate skills.
  • Care plans were exceptionally personalised and detailed. People’s needs were consistently met, including those with highly complex needs.Staff also used supportive techniques to ensure communication with people was effective.
  • Staff were highly trained and supported in their roles and were compassionate and proactive in their approach. They found creative solutions to care and worked with other healthcare providers to achieve the best possible outcomes for people.
  • Staff built positive relationships with people and their families and showed real dedication to supporting people, including caring for them in their own time. Staff also helped people express their views and ensure they felt listened to and valued.
  • People were effectively supported when they transferred between care services. Care notes were transferred with the person and in some cases, staff or a registered manager would also accompany a person to advocate on their behalf and ensure their needs and wishes were fully understood.
