Wednesday 19 September

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has published a report highlighting significant improvements following the latest inspection of Ashburnham Retirement Home, Westminster Road in Morecambe.

CQC had previously issued two warning notices to Mr Nashir Kasmani, the owner of the Morecambe care home, following an inspection in July 2012. This inspection had found shortfalls in standards of staff recruitment and staff training.

When inspectors re-visited the home on 16 August 2012 to check if the required improvements had been made, they found that the owner had taken steps to rectify the staffing issues previously identified and the service was fully compliant with the requirements of both warning notices.

Inspectors found improvements had been made to staff recruitment procedures and all necessary checks were being undertaken by the owner prior to new staff commencing employment.

All staff were also receiving training required to meet the individual needs of people living at the home, and all new staff were provided with additional induction training.

Malcolm Bower-Brown, Deputy Director of Operations for CQC in the North, said:

“Our inspectors were pleased to find that improvements had been made at Ashburnham House. We will continue to monitor the home to make sure that this is sustained.”
