6 June 2013

Members of the public are invited to meet their local CQC inspector to talk about the quality of care and to find out what to look out for when choosing a care home, as part of National Care Home Open day on Friday 21 June 2013.

Supported by care home sector representatives, homes across the country will open their doors to the public for the day. CQC inspectors will also be available to talk to visitors in a number of the homes.

Chief Executive David Behan said: “Our job is to inspect care homes to make sure they are providing safe, compassionate, high quality care. This is a good opportunity for us to meet the public and listen to what they have to say. We also want to explain more about what we do and the care people have a right to expect.”

CQC monitors and inspects over 18,000 care homes across England. The Commission will start public consultation on its new fundamental levels of care – the bar below which services must not fall when they are inspected - in June this year.
