Debbie Westhead, Deputy Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care in the North, said:

“This service was very considerate in how it supported people with their rehabilitation back to independence. We saw how the service learned about the people they supported and tailored the service to fit, to ensure a positive outcome. The service engaged people with activities which were based on the person’s interests and planned in a way that would enhance their life and help them in reaching a goal.

“We also saw how the care at the service was just the start, staff helped people reintegrate into the community by supporting them to register with GP and dental services, alongside working with the local authority to provide additional community support. The service also helped people in preparing their own homes, following a visit to the service, to ensure a safe transition back home.

“There was a commitment to promoting effective communication, utilising innovative techniques and technology, aiding in the development of a caring relationship and fully understanding someone’s needs. Relatives were positive about the service telling us they went the ‘extra mile’ to help people and that the care provided has greatly improved their relative’s well-being.

“We found the service to provide real empathy in its approach to care and empowered people to return to an independent life. It also was great to see a member of staff had been recognised for excellent commitment, enthusiasm and motivation by the provider – they won an award for this. Congratulations on your story of improvement and achieving an Outstanding rating.”

Some of the findings from the inspection included:

  • Staff had training and experience in a wide array of subjects appropriate to the needs of the people they supported.
  • Care professionals spoke positively about the service, the standard of care and the quality of communication they had with the service.
  • People’s rooms were decorated and personalised in a reflective way. Showing how well the staff knew the people, their history and their care needs.
