Some of the features of the inspection included:

The safety of people who used the service was maintained. Staff were well aware of their responsibility to protect people's health and wellbeing. There were systems in place to ensure that risks to people's safety and wellbeing were identified and addressed. Staff had a full understanding of people's care needs and the skills and knowledge to meet them.

CQC inspectors noted that staff were very responsive to any changes in people's health or wellbeing and liaised effectively with health professionals in a timely and proactive manner. All of the community professionals inspectors spoken with were very complimentary about the service and reported very positive experiences when dealing with Home Instead Senior Care.

Debbie Westhead, Deputy Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care in the North, said:

“This is a service that provides exceptional care that has increased it’s rating from their May 2015 visit. People gave excellent feedback regarding the level of personalised care. They felt the service was flexible and based on their personal wishes and preferences. It is clear that the service was exceptionally responsive.

“This service demonstrated exemplary practice by insisting on a minimum of one hour for each visit. Staff told us this gave time to get to know people socially and provided care at a pace where nobody felt rushed.

“Delivering person-centred care makes a big difference to people who live, perhaps in isolation, at home. We found the content of people's care plans to be highly personalised and reflect their key needs.

“The service also worked in innovative ways to promote the wellbeing of vulnerable people. Home Instead Senior Care were involved and active in the local community helping to educate and break down barriers for people with disability. For example, the provision of dementia awareness training to the public, including local businesses, so that they could understand how to help people

“Home Instead Senior Care is providing a first class service and thoroughly deserve their Outstanding rating and I congratulate all concerned on improving the rating from Good to Outstanding. It is fully deserved.”
