The Care Quality Commission has found the quality of care provided by Devonshire Court in Oadby, Leicestershire, to be Outstanding following an inspection in August.

Devonshire Court is managed by The Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution Care Company and provides care to people living with dementia.

Inspectors found staff were caring and compassionate and people were being provided with safe, responsive, caring, effective and well-led care. A full inspection report has been published on CQC’s website: www.cqc.org.uk/location/1-2600747693

Under CQC’s programme of inspections, all adult social care services are being given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. Devonshire Court is rated Outstanding for being caring, responsive and well-led, and Good for being safe and effective.

Rob Assall-Marsden, CQC’s Head of Inspection for Adult Social Care in the central region said:

“Our inspection team was really impressed by the level of care and support offered to people living at Devonshire Court, which we found gave them an enhanced sense of quality of life and well-being.

“The provider and management team had a long-term vision for the home which they were working extremely hard to achieve.

“Staff received exceptionally good in-house and external training, and excellent support by management to ensure people's health and social care needs were met.

“People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and were supported in the least restrictive way possible. Staff understood the importance of treating people equally and respected each person's human rights.

“Residents were fully involved in the running of the home. They were part of the recruitment process, and their voice was heard and acted on because of regular resident meetings.

“They were offered an extensive range of activities so they could live enjoyable and fulfilling lives.

“All of this meant people received a high standard of care, which is why it has been rated Outstanding.”

Andrea Sutcliffe, Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care, said:

“The quality of care which our inspectors found here was exceptional and I am very pleased that we can celebrate the service’s achievements.

“An outstanding service is the result of a tremendous amount of hard work and commitment. I would like to thank and congratulate everyone involved.”
