The Care Quality Commission has rated Westmorland Homecare Office in Kendal, Cumbria, to be Outstanding after an inspection in November 2018. The service provides care and support to people living in their own homes.

This is the service’s first rated inspection since being registered with CQC in 2017 and is operated by Westmorland Homecare Limited. At the time of the inspection, 96 people were receiving support with personal care from the service.

Following the latest inspection, Westmorland Homecare Office was rated Outstanding overall and for services that are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.

A full report of the inspection has been published on the CQC website: www.cqc.org.uk/location/1-4232707598

Helena Dennett - Head of Inspection (North West), Adult Social Care said:

“We found this service to be providing very high standards of care, and everyone we spoke with praised the service very highly and said they felt safe.

“The service was quite innovative when approaching care solutions. They involved mountain rescue services when adverse weather conditions made it difficult for carers to visit people and provided additional support to them with maintenance issues. We also learned of the strong focus on the staff development programme, which gave staff confidence and the skills they needed to help support someone.

“There was a keen desire to use and develop best practice through technology. The service researched and implemented digital drinking cups and applications to support people with dementia to stay hydrated, and used communication and sensory aids to promote social conversation and stimulation.

“During the inspection we observed kind, caring and thoughtful interactions between people. A truly outstanding service throughout, congratulations to everyone involved.”
