The Care Quality Commission has today, 2 October 2020, published the findings of a focused inspection of Queen Alexandra Hospital, part of Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust.
The inspection, which took place on 15 July 2020 was in response to concerns around the trusts’ management of medicines. Inspectors had received information around a series of incidents across the trust involving the management of medicines.
In the most recent published report from January 2020, CQC also, told the trust to address the issues relating to the adequate storage of medicines and medicine errors. Inspectors had not received evidence showing clear action had been taken to address this issue.
CQC’s Head of Hospital Inspection Catherine Campbell, said:
“Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust has worked hard to ensure improvements around their management of medicines were in place and thoroughly embedded. Our inspectors found pharmacy staff were now in place within ward teams. There was improved storage of medicines, including patients own medicines. There was also an open culture within the trust. Staff felt confident to challenge each other and confirm medicine related queries.
“The team know what further improvements are needed. We will return to check that those improvements have been made at a later date”.
Full reports for the trust will be published on CQC’s website at the following link: www.cqc.org.uk/location/RHU03
