The Care Quality Commission has again told Dr Samuel Bhasme (also known as The Surgery Railway Street) based at Railway Street, Gillingham Kent that further improvements are required to the practice services. This follows a recent re-inspection of the practice in March 2018 after it was placed into special measures in July 2017
At this inspection in March 2018 inspectors rated the practice as Inadequate for being safe, effective and well-led, Requires Improvement for being responsive to people’s needs and Good for being caring.
A full report of this inspection has been published on our website.
Ruth Rankine, Deputy Chief Inspector of General Practice CQC’s South region said:
“Our inspectors had previously carried out an inspection at The Surgery Railway Street in July 2017 and this was a follow-up inspection on our initial concerns to review the actions the practice had taken since that first visit.
“While we have rated the service Good for being caring and we saw that staff treated patients with kindness and dignity, it is extremely worrying that the practice has failed to make sufficient improvements to ensure people receive high quality, safe care”.
“With this in mind we had no option but to keep the practice in special measures for a further six months after which we will consider further action is sufficient improvements have not been made.
Key findings of CQC’s inspection included:
Further improvements to medicines management were still required.
The practice had not made sufficient improvements to the assessment and management of risks to patients, visitors and staff.
The practice did not have adequate arrangements for responding to emergencies.
Not all staff were fully aware of their roles and responsibilities.
There were not enough improvements for reporting, recording and investigating significant events or the management of infection prevention and control.
