The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has taken action to cancel the registration of a care home provider in North Lincolnshire.

CQC’s decision to cancel Abbey House UK Limited‘s registration means that they can no longer legally operate a care service at St George's Care Home in Broughton, North Lincolnshire.

During an unannounced inspection in March 2015 inspectors found that the provider was still failing to ensure people living at the home were safe and properly cared for.

Previous inspections in July, August and September 2014, had uncovered significant shortfalls and a continued failure by the provider to make the required improvements.

At their latest inspection in March 2015 CQC found continued concerns regarding the homes health and safety procedures, poor care practices, inadequate staff recruitment checks and a lack of staff training and supervision.

A full report detailing the findings of the inspection has been published at www.cqc.org.uk/location/1-118606500.

In February 2015, as a result of financial issues, the Court appointed administrators who in March 2015 took the decision to close the home. CQC worked closely with North Lincolnshire Council and local commissioners to ensure the safe relocation of all residents to alternative accommodation.

On 7 July 2015 a Care Standard’s Tribunal recorded Abbey House UK Limited’s withdrawal of their appeal against CQC’s Notice of Decision to cancel the company’s registration. As such Abbey House UK Limited is no longer registered to operate a home at Brick Hills, Broughton, North Lincolnshire.

Debbie Westhead, Deputy Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care at CQC, said:

“People are entitled to services which provide safe, effective, compassionate and high quality care and Abbey House UK Limited has failed the residents of St George's Care Home.

“The provider was placing people at significant risk of receiving inappropriate or unsafe care and was unable to address the issues we identified. For this reason we had no option but to cancel the registration.”
