The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has taken action to cancel the registration of a nursing home provider in Wirral, Merseyside.

CQC’s decision to cancel Amrit Limited’s registration means that they can no longer legally operate a care service at Safe Harbour Dementia Care Home in Wirral, Merseyside.

During an unannounced inspection in June 2015 inspectors found that the provider was still failing to ensure people living at the home were safe and properly cared for.

Previous inspections in 2014, January and February 2015 had observed significant shortfalls and a continued failure by the provider to make the required improvements.

The provider was unable to demonstrate compliance with the regulations inspected. During this time a Warning Notice and a Fixed Penalty Notice have been served as a result of the provider’s failure to ensure appropriate arrangements were in place for the safe management of medicines.

At their latest inspection in June 2015 CQC found continued concerns regarding the homes health and safety procedures, general condition of the home, record keeping and leadership.

A full report detailing the findings of the inspection has been published at www.cqc.org.uk/location/1-315501582.

On 26 August 2015 a Care Standard’s Tribunal recorded Amrit Limited’s withdrawal of their appeal against CQC’s Notice of Decision to cancel the company’s registration. As such Amrit Limited is no longer registered to operate a home at Abbotts Drive, Wirral, Merseyside.

The home has now been taken over by a new provider.

Debbie Westhead, Deputy Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care at CQC, said:

“People are entitled to services which provide safe, effective, compassionate and high quality care and Amrit Limited has failed the residents of Safe Harbour Dementia Care Home.

“The provider was placing people at significant risk of receiving inappropriate or unsafe care and was unable to address the issues we identified. For this reason we had no option but to cancel their registration.”
