Princess Christian Residential and Nursing Care Home ("Princess Christian"), a residential care home in Knaphill, Woking, has received an overall rating of Outstanding following an inspection in November 2019 by the Care Quality Commission. The home is registered to provide personal and nursing care up to 96 people

“Princess Christian Residential and Nursing Care Home has a culture where the provision of consistent, high quality, compassionate care is at the heart of its operation.  It is clear that the staff and management are committed to providing individualised care and treating people with dignity and respect while encouraging independence.

“People told inspectors that they receive exceptional care that regularly exceeds their expectations and makes them feel happy and at home. Relatives were also overwhelmingly positive when describing the standards of care provided.

The chef at the home created a way to ensure pureed food was presented as close to looking like the original food as possible. Buffets, special meals, desserts and birthday cakes were provided in line with assessed need, so all events could be celebrated by people needing their food prepared to keep them safe.

A relative shared a concern that their relative was not eating well. The chef met with the relatives and person to seek a solution and created a dedicated menu that met their likes and dislikes but also, allowed them to eat a texture that they would not struggle to chew.

The service was accredited to the platinum level of the Gold Standards Framework for end of life care. The service achieved re-accreditation in September 2018 (until 2021). This means the service was able to demonstrate they continued to meet a required 20 standards to a very high level.

Princess Christian worked closely with two local hospices who, provided support not only to the people and relatives but, also the staff. Staff confirmed that they were supported through their grief for people they had been caring for and all the management team and nurses were very good at supporting them.
