The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has published a report following an unannounced focused inspection of infection prevention and control (IPC) measures in some of the acute services provided by Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

The inspection took place in February and was carried out after the trust experienced outbreaks of hospital transmitted COVID-19 infections during November and December 2020. The trust operates services at Yeovil District Hospital (YDH) and the Yeatman Hospital in Sherborne. As this was a focused inspection, it was not rated and the trust’s overall rating of requires improvement remains unchanged.

During the inspection, CQC found that the trust had made significant improvements to ensure that hospital-acquired COVID-19 infections were brought safely under control. The trust had brought the bed management team and the IPC team together to work as one during the pandemic, and this was working effectively. Staff felt supported, and the trust was rated amongst the best in the country for staff engagement during a recent NHS staff survey. However, there were also a number of areas for improvement which the trust should take which are outlined in the report.

The report will be published on the website here.
