The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has published a report following a focused inspection of the Gynaecology Department, Southmead Hospital part of North Bristol NHS Trust.
The inspection was carried out on 10 December. As it took place during the COVID-19 pandemic, inspectors limited the amount of time they spent at the service, followed the trust’s local infection control policies and spoke with staff by video call rather than in person.
The focused inspection was conducted to check against the improvements the trust had made in the service and to find out how effective the trust’s actions had been in improving the safety of the service.
Inspectors found that improvements had been embedded into practice and a culture of continuous improvement had been adopted to improve services for women. The service managed patient safety incidents well and managers investigated incidents and shared lessons learned with the whole team and the wider service.
This targeted inspection did not result in a rating but both Southmead Hospital and North Bristol NHS Trust remain rated Good overall.
Full details of the inspection are given in the report published online here.
