The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has found the quality of care provided by Drs. Howe and Hendriksz also known as Lostwithiel Medical Practice, North Street in Lostwithiel, Cornwall to be Outstanding following an inspection in August 2017.
Inspectors rated the care at Lostwithiel Medical Practice Outstanding for being effective, responsive to people’s needs and well-led and Good for being safe and caring.

“Lostwithiel Medical Practice is providing an exceptional service with high quality integrated care and treatment. The service is a real asset to providing and very valuable service to the vulnerable in such a rural area as at Lostwithiel.
“I am delighted that Lostwithiel Medical Practice has taken to heart our original inspection report from Junary 2015 and built on it – not just in those areas where improvements were required, but in their stronger areas too. The providing an exceptional service with high quality integrated care and treatment. The service is a real asset to providing and very valuable service to the vulnerable in such a rural area as at Lostwithiel.
“Staff were dedicated to providing a proactive approach to understanding the needs of vulnerable patient groups and staff delivered care in a way that meets patients’ needs and promoted equality while providing treatment with dignity and compassion.
“This is a great example of what outstanding care looks like and the team at Lostwithiel Medical Practice should be very proud of what they have achieved to date.”
The report highlights a number of areas of outstanding practice, including:
The practice employed two specialist consultant orthopaedic surgeons. The practice had developed this service due to the particular difficulties these patient groups had in travelling long distances from this rural area to hospital-based services
Three key areas of outstanding practice included dementia research, having a cancer champion nurse and an elder care co-ordinator nurse
The practice had gained SAVVY level two, (a county-wide initiative by the council supporting improved access to GP services for young people) approval. This indicated a focus on the emotional health and well-being of young people.
