Westall House care home in West Sussex has been rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission following a recent inspection.
Inspectors rated the service Outstanding in the areas of being caring, responsive to people’s needs and well-led and Good for being safe and effective. The overall rating was Outstanding.
Westall House is a residential care home for up to 22 older people with a range of needs, including people living with dementia. There were 21 people living at the service at the time of the inspection.
Deborah Ivanova, Deputy Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care, said;
“Westall House is a service where the staff and management are clearly passionate about providing personalised care and have created an environment where people are treated with compassion, dignity and respect. People and their relatives were overwhelmingly positive about the high quality, individualised care that was provided by the staff.
“The service was rated Good overall after our previous inspection in July 2015 and I am delighted that Westall House has continued to improve upon the standard of care provided and has now achieved our highest overall rating of Outstanding. The staff and management should be proud of their achievement”.
Key findings from the inspection include;
- People were supported by extremely kind and caring staff. All of the comments we received during the inspection, without exception, reflected how staff consistently put the people first.
- Staff were clear they worked as a team to support people. They took time to learn about each person and adapt the support they provided to meet their needs and wishes.
- People's religious and cultural differences were respected by staff. One person spoke multiple languages so a member of staff regularly spoke with them in one of the alternative languages.
- Staff actively encouraged people to be independent and develop and learn new skills in all areas of their life including taking part in activities of their choice such as getting involved in a national reading initiative.
