England's Chief Inspector of Hospitals has praised Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission.
Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust was rated as Good overall following an inspection which took place between January and March this year.
The trust is also rated as Good in all five key questions CQC asks – are services safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led – and in every single area CQC inspected.
Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust provides a range of community-based health services across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin. CQC inspected community health services for adults, community health services for children, young people and families, community health inpatient services, community end of life care, community dental services and urgent care services.
CQC’s Chief Inspector of Hospitals, Professor Ted Baker, said:
“On our return to Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust we found a number of widespread improvements had been made.
“Inspectors found the trust had a clear vision and strategy for what it wanted to achieve. These were supported by workable plans to turn it into action developed with involvement from staff, patients, and key groups representing the local community. Leaders and managers across the trust promoted a positive people first culture, focused on ensuring staff were supported and valued. This created a sense of common purpose based on shared values and pride in the organisation and its services.
“While we found some areas for where further improvement should be made, that we have fed back to the trust leadership, overall it was providing a good service for the people of Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.
“It was pleasing to note that staff and managers had worked collaboratively to bring about improvements in the services it provides. CQC will continue to monitor the trust and this will include further inspections.”
Inspectors found that the trust was committed to improving services by learning from when things went well and when they went wrong. Information was collected, analysed, managed and used well to support the trust, using secure electronic systems with security safeguards. The trust also engaged well with patients, staff, the public and local organisations in its planning and management of service.
Significant improvements had been made in community end of life care with regard to how well-led the service was.
The inspection also highlighted that the trust must ensure safe and effective medicines management systems are in place at Severndale School.
Full reports for the trust will be published on CQC’s website tomorrow (Thursday) at the following link: www.cqc.org.uk/provider/R1D
