Chitty Barn care home in Dover, Kent has been rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission following an inspection in December 2017.
Inspectors rated the service Outstanding in the areas of being responsive to people’s needs and well-led with Good ratings for being safe, effective and caring. The overall rating was Outstanding.
Chitty Barn is a care home that provides personal care and support to people living with complex learning disabilities. There were two people living at the service at the time of the inspection.
Deborah Ivanova, Deputy Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care, said;
“Chitty Barn is a small service where staff are evidently passionate about supporting people to have control over their lives and have fulfilling experiences of their own choosing.
“The staff and management have fostered a culture of providing personalised care and created an environment where people are treated with kindness, equality, dignity and respect. People were overwhelmingly positive about the high quality, individualised care they received.
“The service was rated Good overall after our previous inspection in December 2015 and I am delighted that Chitty Barn has continued to improve upon the standard of care provided and has now achieved our highest overall rating of Outstanding. The staff and management should be proud of their achievement”.
Key findings from the inspection include;
- People who had complex needs were supported by a dedicated, trained team who had the skills and competencies to ensure people received the right individual support.
- People received support from staff who knew them well. Their care was person centred and tailored to their individual needs. Staff worked really hard to give people the opportunity to reach their potential. They understood people's complex needs and looked for ways to improve their lives.
- Staff actively encouraged people to be independent and develop and learn new skills in all areas of their life including taking part in activities of their choice such as accessing work experience and being involved in a local football club.
- The leadership and management of the service was outstanding, with an emphasis on mutual respect for everyone involved in the service.
