The Care Quality Commission has found the quality of care provided by Brookfield Residential Care Home, in Somersham near Huntingdon, to be Outstanding following an inspection last month.

Brookfield Residential Care Home provides care and accommodation for up to 14 people. There were 10 people living at the home when CQC visited on 21 March.

Inspectors found staff were caring and compassionate and people were being provided with safe, responsive, caring, effective and well-led care. A full inspection report has been published.

Under CQC’s programme of inspections, all adult social care services are being given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. Brookfield Residential Care Home is rated Outstanding overall as well as for being caring and responsive. It is rated as Good for whether the service is safe, effective and well-led.

Jemima Burnage, CQC’s Head of Inspection for Adult Social Care in the central region said:

“During our inspection at Brookfield Residential Care Home, we found exceptional standards of care. The care home was rated as Good following our inspection in February 2016 and it was gratifying to see the home has continued to improve to the extent that it is now rated as Outstanding.

“Inspectors observed people receiving outstanding care and we received extremely positive comments from a range of people about the caring nature of the service.

“People received very high quality care from staff who had the time to spend with them and their families. Staff showed kindness to people in everything they did by offering exceptionally friendly support around people’s individual needs.

“We found that people were able to retain their interests and routines, and people were at the heart of the service as staff put those in their care first and foremost in everything.

“Care plans contained relevant personalised information and these gave staff the information they needed to meet people's needs. They also used people's life histories to help them to understand what was important to each and every person. Staff told us about how it was important that people were enabled to be independent and told us how they worked in a way to protect people’s privacy and dignity.

“Concerns were responded to before they became a complaint and staff worked well with other stakeholders to ensure people’s end of life care was well managed.

“All of this meant people received a high standard of care, which is why it has been rated Outstanding.”

Andrea Sutcliffe, Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care, said:

“The quality of care which our inspectors found here was exceptional and I am very pleased that we can celebrate the service’s achievements.

“An outstanding service is the result of a tremendous amount of hard work and commitment. I would like to thank and congratulate everyone involved.”
