The Care Quality Commission has found the quality of care provided by Bradgate Surgery in Ardenton Walk, Bristol, Avon to be Outstanding following an inspection in April.
Inspectors rated the care at the surgery Outstanding against all key questions – Outstanding for being safe, effective, caring, responsive to people’s needs and well-led.
Ruth Rankine, Deputy Chief Inspector of General Practice, said;
“Bradgate Surgery continues to provide exceptional, high quality care to patients with a focus on improvement at all levels of the organisation.
“The service was rated Outstanding after our previous inspection in March 2015 and should be commended for continuing to provide person-centred, compassionate care and once again achieving our highest rating”.
Key findings from the inspection include;
- Staff treated patients with kindness, respect and compassion. Inspectors received positive feedback from patients regarding the way staff treated people. The practice has introduced the role of care coordinator whose role principally involves coordinating the handover and interface between primary (GPs) and secondary care (accident and emergency and local hospitals). This meant that patients being discharged from hospital were contacted to ensure support services had been arranged and if not then they would be arranged. The care coordinator also arranged any follow up appointments or tests.
- There was a proactive approach to understanding the needs and preferences of different groups of people and to delivering care in a way that meets these needs,which promoted equality. For instance, the practice organised to visit the travelling community in order to establish better community relationships.
- Leaders were visible and approachable. They worked closely with staff and others to make sure they embedded compassionate and inclusive leadership. There was a clear vision and set of values and the practice developed its vision, values and strategy jointly with patients, staff and external partners.
- There was clear documentation which showed that new developments had been fully researched and discussed by the practice before implementation, with targets set, which were later reviewed to ensure the new development was delivering the anticipated benefits.
