Argyll House in Crickdale Road, Swindon, Wiltshire has been rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission following a recent inspection.
Inspectors rated the service Outstanding for being responsive to people’s needs and well-led and Good for being safe, effective and caring. The overall rating was Outstanding.
Argyll House is a care home which provides accommodation and support to people living with learning disabilities. There were five people resident at the time of the inspection.
Deborah Ivanova, Deputy Chief Inspector, Adult Social Care, said;
“Argyll House is a service that is committed to promoting a positive, inclusive and open culture. It is clear that the values and vision of the service have been adopted by the staff who are committed to supporting the residents to live as independently as possible. The ethos of the service is focused on allowing residents to overcome obstacles and achieve positive outcomes."
“The service was rated Good overall after our previous inspection in October 2015 and I am delighted that the provision of compassionate, high quality, individualised care has continued to improve. The staff and management should be proud of their achievement in attaining our highest overall rating of Outstanding and I would like to extend my congratulations to them.”
Some of the key findings from the inspection included:
- Staff showed passion and commitment to providing the best support to enable people to have full lives. The registered manager had taken time to look into ways to improve safety and share this practice within the service. Actions were taken to identify potential areas for improvement and these improvements were subsequently implemented.
- Inspectors observed staff supporting people in a warm and caring way throughout the inspection. For example, one person who was unwell was taken care of by various staff who all offered kind words whilst also acknowledging how the person was feeling. Staff described the people they supported with warmth and an enthusiasm for wanting to do the best for individuals.
- The service played a strong part in the local community and had actively explored and built links with community resources, including incorporating fitness sessions for residents and use of a local therapist to attend and offer massage and other wellbeing type services.
- People and professionals were overwhelmingly positive regarding the operation of the service. Inspectors were told “Argyll House consistently go above and beyond what is expected of them as a care team. They quickly identify, respond to and anticipate their service users’ needs whilst respecting their dignity and autonomy…. People’s lives are enriched by living there”.
