Organisations we regulate

Based on the information you have given us so far, these are the forms you need to use to notify us about dormant regulated activities.

Tell us about the dormant regulated activities

If you have an account with the CQC Provider Portal, you can send us your notification online.

Notify us online

If you do not have access to the Provider Portal, you can notify us using this form. You only need to fill in sections 1 and 11, then email it to HSCA_applications@cqc.org.uk.

What happens next

When we have received your notification, we will write to you to confirm the details.

Every three months, we will ask you for an update. We will send you a form to confirm that the regulated activity has remained dormant over the previous three months. You need to return the completed form within 14 days.

Your registration details

The details of your registration are not changed so we will not issue an updated certificate of registration in response to dormancy. However, we will change the status of the location or regulated activity to ‘Dormant’.

Annual fee

As long as you remain registered as the provider of a regulated activity, we will still charge an annual fee. Failure to pay the annual fees may result in your registration being cancelled.

Registered managers

Your registered manager must tell us if they resign from their position and cancel their registration. For example, they might do this if a service will be dormant for a long period.

If the service will only be dormant for a short period, for example for a refurbishment, this might not affect the manager’s registration.

Dormancy and inspection

If you are not carrying out a specific regulated activity at a location, we will not need to inspect it during an inspection.

We will still inspect any other regulated activities that remain active at the location.

In some cases, we may decide to visit a location to gather evidence. For example, if we believe that a regulated activity is being provided but the provider has not notified CQC.
