The Care Quality Commission has found the quality of care provided by Meadow House Nursing Home to be Outstanding overall following an inspection carried out in May.
Meadow House Nursing Home is a service that provides accommodation and nursing care for up to 38 people who are living with neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy and acquired brain injury. On the day of the inspection, there were a total of 37 people living at the home.
Inspectors found staff were caring and compassionate and people were being provided with safe, responsive, caring, effective and well-led care. A full report of the inspection has been published.
Under CQC’s new programme of inspections, all adult social care services are being given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. Meadow House Nursing Home was rated Outstanding overall, Outstanding for being caring and responsive and Good for being safe and effective and well-led.
Rob Assall-Marsden, CQC’s Head of Inspection for Adult Social Care in the central region said:
“We were impressed with what we found during our inspection of Meadow House Nursing Home and inspectors were struck by how caring staff were to those using the service.
“People were supported by very kind and compassionate staff who often went the extra mile to provide them with excellent, high quality care. This high standard of care enhanced people's quality of life and wellbeing. Staff were extremely passionate about providing people with support that was based on their individual needs, goals and aspirations.
“People had access to activities that complemented their individual hobbies and interests. Links with the local community had been established and people were supported to participate in community events and other events that were important and meaningful to them. This provided them with a sense of purpose and wellbeing.
“On the day of our inspection, a number of relatives specifically sought us out so they could express how impressed they were with the dedication and kindness that the staff showed their family members.
“We observed that people were comfortable in the staff's presence. Conversations were friendly and there was a lot of laughter. Some staff were seen singing happy birthday to one person in their room and performing a dance for them which made the person laugh.
“All of this meant people received a high standard of care, which is why it has been rated Outstanding.”

“The quality of care which our inspectors found here was exceptional and I am very pleased that we can celebrate the service’s achievements.
