Information for CQC staff in the event of an emergency or critical incident.

This page tells you what to do in an emergency or following an incident that disrupts our physical working environment, such as a fire at one of our buildings or a major incident external to our organisation that disrupts our ability to work normally.

What should I do in an emergency:

In a CQC office?

  • Listen to and follow promptly any instructions given to you either by your manager, fire marshals, by email, via text message or any other means.
  • Check this page (www.cqc.org.uk/incidentinfo) for general information about the incident and for official staff updates.
  • If you hear an evacuation alarm, evacuate the building promptly following the instructions for your building location. Remember, in an emergency every second counts. Go to the designated assembly point.
  • Keep your mobile device turned on and ensure that you are contactable during the incident period.
  • Consider contacting your family and friends and let them know you are safe.
  • Inform your line manager before making your way home.
  • If you have any concerns or queries, first contact your line manager.
  • Direct all press and media enquiries to our press office on 07789 876 508.

If I’m out of the office, homeworking or something occurs outside office hours?

  • Check this page (www.cqc.org.uk/incidentinfo) for general information about the incident and for official staff updates.
  • If you are not part of an Emergency Management or Business Recovery Team, you are not required to be involved in the incident management or business recovery process in the initial post-incident period, but may be required to assist in recovery activities at a later time.
  • Remain contactable on your CQC mobile device, or other device where you have volunteered the number, and wait for further instructions.
  • Remain on standby to go to your office or another location - you may be required to assist with the recovery effort.
  • Continue to monitor this page (www.cqc.org.uk/incidentinfo).

Personal business continuity preparations

  • Record your personal telephone number on People Finder and make sure it is kept up-to-date. We will only use your personal number in an emergency.
  • Notify your line manager if your telephone contact details change. All line managers are expected to maintain contact details for their team members as part of normal management responsibilities.
