About our Hospitals directorate
"We all joined CQC because we want to help ensure that patients receive consistently high quality and safe care. Our inspection programme is already making a difference We can take pride in this, but there is no excuse for us resting on our laurels. While care has improved there is still much that can get better Health services are facing major challenges and we must remain vigilant for any deterioration in the quality of care.
"Our revised inspection methodology is an opportunity for us to forge a new strong relationship with providers of care, built on trust and mutual respect We must transparently and honestly report on the quality of care we find and continually encourage them to improve their services We must constantly challenge them to be transparent with us, with their patients and with the population they serve.
"We have received a great deal of feedback from frontline staff in the health service and from the public praising our honesty and independence. Quality concerns in health services are often distressing, but we have demonstrated that they must be faced if patient care is to be improved. To do this effectively we need to work together, holding fast to the CQC’s values of excellence, caring, integrity and teamwork. The Hospitals directorate consists of two key functions:
- Acute
- Mental Health and Community Health Services (MH & CHS).
