The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has published a report on Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust following an inspection in September.
CQC carried out an unannounced focused inspection of acute wards for adults of working age and psychiatric intensive care units, at ward 35 on the Radbourne unit. This is a 20 bedded female acute and admissions ward.
The inspection was carried out due to concerns received about the quality of services being provided, following a routine visit by a CQC Mental Health Act reviewer. Also, to check if the trust had now met the legal requirements highlighted at the previous CQC inspection as being missed, on this ward.
Due to concerns found at this latest inspection, CQC requested assurances from the trust that the ward was safe, people received the right care and treatment, and appropriate measures were in place to monitor these changes. The trust responded immediately and put appropriate measures in place with a detailed action plan.
Immediate improvements were made by the trust with regards to the environment, restrictive practices, informing people of their rights and improving and updating care plans and risk assessments.
As this was a focused inspection for ward 35, the service was not re-rated and the previous rating of requires improvement remains in place for the service overall, as well as for being safe and well-led. Effective, caring and responsive were also not re-rated and remain rated as good.
The overall rating for Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust remains rated as good.
